What is an absentee bid? How to bid (Live or non-Live sales) ?

You can bid by placing different bids (fixed, automatic or Live) depending on the type of sale (Live or classic).

I/ Classic sales (non-live sales)

Fixed absentee bids

You can place fixed absentee bids on non-live sales published on Auction.fr, indicating the maximum amount you are willing to pay for the lot you are interested in.

To do this, simply:

      • go to the page of the object you are interested in
      • click the "Place a Bid" button
      • enter the maximum amount you wish to pay for the object and click the "Confirm" button
      • fill in a quick form with your details (address, phone number, agree to the terms and conditions of sale, etc.)

You will receive an email confirming the sending of your bid to the auction house.

Prior to the sale, this maximum amount will be disclosed to the auctioneer. During the sale, the auctioneer will bid for you, trying to buy the lot at the lowest possible price without exceeding your stated maximum amount.

II/ Live sales

1°) Automatic bids (or Secret absentee bids)

For Live sales (broadcast live on Auction.fr), you can place automatic bids in advance (their amounts are not disclosed to the auction houses). Placed automatically by our technology, these automatic bids guarantee you the fairest price, within the limit of your maximum bid. Automatic bids are very convenient if you are unable to follow and participate in the live auction on the day.

Played automatically by our technology, these automatic buy orders guarantee you the fairest price, within your maximum bid. Automatic buy orders are ideal if you cannot follow and participate in the Live sale on the day.

2°) Live bids

For Live sales (broadcast live on Auction.fr), you also have the option of bidding (and outbidding) live when the lot goes up for auction. All you have to do is go to the sale page on the day of the auction, unlock the button to bid by clicking "Participate in the auction", and then click the "Bid €X" button. Your bid will then be forwarded to and taken into account by the auctioneer as if you were in the saleroom.
